We have walls!

We skipped yesterday's visit, so today we were delighted to see, for the first time, WALLS! All of the exterior walls and almost all of the interior walls are framed in. Most of the siding is on and some of the windows are in. Yay!!
Our front porch (paid extra for that!) and doorway. To the right is the kitchen window. To the left is the smallest bedroom's window.
Standing near the kitchen looking to the back of the house. On the right will be our dining area and toward the back, near the patio door, is the living room.
Standing near the kitchen looking into the 3rd bedroom and beyond. If I had cute little arrows, I could point them all over to show the 2nd bedroom, master, and if we squint, some of the bathroom.

It was raining today and when we drove past this morning, there was a small crew working. They were dripping wet but managed to still put up all of our walls. Tomorrow if they're there, we might take coffee and hot chocolate. We went back this evening when everyone was gone. That way we can wander all over, in and out of houses, etc. We got very muddy but it was such fun to see the house starting to take shape.

  1. Walls!

It was certainly exciting to see our walls go up, but it was also a bit of an illusion, feeling sometimes like the spaces were too big and sometimes too small. When all is said and done, though, they turned out just perfect.

Now is the time to start watching for any builder's mistakes. For instance, if you had anything specially sized, you should double-check that it's correct. You should also be sure to get plenty of pictures of where all the studs are and, when the time comes, where everything inside the wall is run. Those pictures have already come in handy for us.

Most builder's mistakes seem to come at the time of drywall, but if you're like us, you'll probably keep a keen eye on everything that happens.

Thanks for the updates; you put us to shame... We didn't document our process at all! Now we're wishing we did, but oh well. We thought we were busy back when the house was going up, but we had no idea what was in store once we moved in.

  2. Thank you for the advice, Matthew! We'll be watching closely. I know the inspector caught a few mistakes in the post & beam inspection...one of them we'd seen already but thought was normal. I'm glad for the inspectors!
